Hey everyone! We announced the ICDA 1 roster at the last meeting. Returning members who registered should all be going. For novices, if you were not in attendance at the last meeting and do not know if you are on the roster, please speak to an Executive Board member. We want to emphasize, if you do not go to ICDA 1, you will definitely be going to ICDA 2, so please do not be discouraged by any means. If you stick with the debate program at Stevenson, you're definitely going to love it, so don't let this stop you from continuing to pursue debate.
We will be hosting a Novice Research Prep and Fundraiser at Chipotle on Saturday, September 19th, from 5-9pm. Preparing for your first tournament can be a bit overwhelming, so we’ll have returning members at this event to make the process as easy as possible. Whether you have questions on the legislation, speech construction, or the tournament in general, there will be a returning member there to help you out! Aside from prepping, ½ of the money spent at Chipotle goes right back to the team, (and who doesn’t love Chiptole, am I right?) This night is also a great way to meet people on the team that you haven’t worked with yet. We are hoping for a really great turnout, and it’d be amazing to see the whole team there! If you’re interested in going, please fill out the following Google Form.
http://goo.gl/forms/LR2PVPXSGa We hope you all can come, it’s going to be a great night! Here's a summary of some details: Where: Chipotle Mexican Grill, 950 Milwaukee Ave, Lincolnshire, IL 60069 When: 5-9pm (come anytime, you don’t have to stay the whole night) What to Bring: Legal Pad, something to write with, iPad, research packet (if available) and money for Chipotle If you have any more questions, please contact Alexis Cacioppo (the person who organized this) at [email protected] Research assignments have been made! The research for ICDA 1 will be done by returning members. Here are the research groups below. Our soft deadline (but it's still a hard deadline) will be Thursday. It doesn't have to be perfect, but a rough draft of research should be done by then so we can have time for revisions.
If you do not see your name, that is because you didn't sign up at our last meeting, so please email any of the research captains (names listed on contact page) about this. We will then assign you to a group then. https://docs.google.com/a/d125.org/spreadsheets/d/19xq1oeA7DTM-LzGjcgkT41MFTNfEpXEGAZDwRdBJxWA/edit?usp=sharing We've had a great turnout the past few meetings and are looking forward to a successful year. For those still planning to join, we meet in Room 6048 on Mondays and Thursdays each week from 3:30 - 4:30 PM. Looking forward, ICDA 1 (our first tournament of the year) will be on September 26. The bills to the research can be found here. We'll be assigning and posting research groups soon as well, so research coordinators, please indicate any bill preferences you may have here. Novices, you won't need to worry about doing research this first time around, but instead focus you should on familiarizing yourself with the bills and how debate works. One last thing - many novices have been asking tons of questions during the meetings (which is great!), but to save time so that meetings can be most productively used, please use this form so we can address your questions accordingly, whether it be through an email response or at the meeting.
Hey everyone!
The summer workshop for incoming freshmen is going to be on July 6/7 from 1 - 3:30 PM in Room 6048 and 6050. Please contact an E-Board member to let us know if you're available to help out. The workshops are a great way to help the freshmen get a solid understanding of what it's like to be a member of the debate team, and we really want to make this a positive experience for them so that they come back once the school year starts. With that in mind, if you're free to help out on either day, your time would really be appreciated! Hey everyone!

So, at today's meeting, the Glenbrooks roster was announced, congrats to everyone who made it! To those who didn't make the roster: the SHS Debate team goes to several select roster tournaments over the course of the year and takes Freshmen to each one, so you still have the opportunity to make a select roster if you stay committed to the team! Outside of Glenbrooks rosters, we mostly began breaking down bills for ICDA III. ICDA III is just around the corner as it is on November 15 at Naperville North! So, make sure you sign up to go to the tournament as soon as possible (see link below)! If you want to do research but don't want to go to the tournament itself, feel free to contact one of the Eboard members, and we'll be sure to put you in a research group. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1UszG6Uk-K_YQPHtqNHbc9jW5Y7uOSPqXdwwtqjDHZlg/viewform?usp=send_form Happy Halloween! ~Veshperro |
